Spring skincare starts from within

Spring skincare starts from within

To me, the winters in the UK always feel long, dark and heavy, so it's really special when spring finally arrives. But as the days get longer, UV levels rise along with pollen counts plus dry and windy weather, which can all be sources of oxidative stress for your skin. A new season calls for a new skincare regime, and the best way to protect it starts from the inside, with nutrition.

Eat the rainbow

Antioxidants help protect your skin from environmental stressors all year round – so when it comes to your food, focus on eating the rainbow. Feast on fruits and vegetables and focus on amazing colourful red and yellow peppers, blueberries, and blackberries. They all contain antioxidants and polyphenols, which are fantastic for your skin.

Stay hydrated

Hydration also supports our skin appearance. At this time of the year, the air can be quite dry and the wind and sun can strip moisture from your skin, so take care not to become dehydrated. I always recommend drinking between 1.5 or 2 litres of water or decaffeinated liquids per day. It of course depends how warm it is and how much you exercise, so you may need more.

Eat collagen sources

Healthy eating that focuses on nutrition improves your skin over time. You have nutrients such as zinc in shellfish, which are fantastic if you have some blemishes or some acne. You can drink or eat foods that are high in collagen, such as bone broth, chicken and fish with skin. It's amazing for skin health and for fine wrinkle prevention.

Think citrus, nuts and seeds

Vitamin C is fantastic for your skin because it not only prevents free radical damage, it also helps build and maintain more resilient collagen. So think about citrus fruits, blackcurrants and broccoli. Vitamin C works together with vitamin E, another really powerful antioxidant that protects skin health. So go for things like sunflower seeds, almonds, avocados, hazelnuts and pine nuts.

Good nutrition is more powerful than any face cream

Internal support for your skin from good nutrition will always be much more powerful than any expensive face products or creams.

Extra support can be especially helpful for the spring and summer months when you might become a bit too busy to focus properly on your diet. A great quality oral skin supplement can be a very easy way of getting all those amazing nutrients in your body every day.

Astaxanthin is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants and helps stop the free radicals that cause premature skin ageing. We’ve combined it with vitamin C in a simple daily capsule that supports collagen formation.

RadiantMe is fantastic because it not only supports your skin but has nice daily energy-boosting properties from magnesium and B vitamins.

As well as powerful antioxidants like astaxanthin and vitamin C, and support for collagen formation and skin hydration, RadiantMe contains a blend of polyphenols from botanical extracts clinically shown to slow down the drivers of skin ageing.

It tastes of wild berry, and I love just having it in a glass of water because it's so delicious. Sometimes I mix it with my porridge as well. For me, it's a gentle way to start the day, waking up my body and my energy levels.

When you support your body from within with good nutrition, it will naturally show on your skin – leaving you feeling healthy, radiant and ready for the season ahead.
